Memorial Day Murph is a tradition at Catacombs and CrossFit gyms across the world.  The workout is named after Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005. We perform this workout in honor of Lt. Murphy and all of the men and women who lost their lives in service to our country. The workout is:

  • 1 Mile Run
  • 100 Pull Ups
  • 200 Push Ups
  • 300 Air Squats
  • 1 Mile Run

Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you've got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.

We will be performing this workout on Memorial Day, May 28th. It is a rite of passage for many in the CrossFit community. As always, we will have scaled options available to make this workout accessible to all and we encourage everyone in our community to give it a go. Please sign up for a heat so that we can accommodate everyone wanting to participate. Yes, we know it is Iron Horse weekend and that MANY of you are completing the IHBC road race or mountain bike race or Narrow Gauge Run or Narrow Horse Swim. Go ahead and round out the weekend by completing Murph and celebrating with your gym family.

Following the workout, we will celebrate the 4th Anniversary of CrossFit Catacombs. We will be grilling up hot dogs and burgers in the parking lot. Please bring beverages or a side to share; we will provide the burgers and dogs. The grill will fire up starting around 11 AM. Please join us to celebrate this momentous occasion.
