Push ups and planks...oh my!
Push ups and planks...oh my!

Hey Guys--

Today's topic is an issue that we often tip toe around. We talk A TON about intensity, consistency, and just showing up. We talk about solid technique and building a strong foundation. Benchmarks, goals, and measuring progress are all common discussions as well. And of course, nutrition is a consistent theme around here, but generally from the standpoint of health--not typically around losing weight. One of the things that has become clear to me in meeting with lots of current and prospective clients, is that many of you have goals around losing weight. Yes, everyone wants to be healthier and fitter; but you also want to be leaner and like the way you look in the mirror better.

I am not sure why I haven't addressed this sooner. Without a doubt, CrossFit will help you lose weight. I firmly believe that a consistent dose of constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity is the best fitness tool for improving health, general physical fitness, and body composition. I have seen it over and over again. This stuff works.

It is not a magic bullet, however. It is hard. Progress requires showing up consistently and putting in the work. Fortunately, the most supportive community anywhere and the most welcoming coaching staff around are on your team to help pick you up when your own resolve is weak.

But exercise is only part of the equation; and to be honest, it is not the biggest contributor to accomplishing your weight loss goals. There has to be a commitment to nutrition that supersedes even your commitment to exercise. Don't get me wrong, they go hand in hand. You greatly improve your likelihood of sticking with exercise when nutrition is a priority; and you will most certainly eat better when you are regularly exercising. Many of us struggle with the nutrition component because we have to do that part on our own. The Catacombs community can't be around 24/7 to help you along the path. You have to have an emotional connection to the outcome you want that overcomes the desire for immediate gratification...over and over and over again.

If losing weight is on your 2017 goal list, let us help. The Whole Life Challenge starts January 21st. It helps solve the community support problem and gives you a structure. More than just losing weight, it will make your life better on a number of other fronts too. Your coaching staff is committed and will be there with advice and encouragement every step of the way. If you aren't yet a member of Catacombs and want to know more, let's set up time to talk. Email tracie@crossfitcatacombs.com. There is no better time to get started than right now.
