Happy Monday, Tribe--

What a spectacular weekend with Catacombs athletes representing at the Muck and Mire, the competition at CrossFit Durango and in the backcountry and mountains all over the region. I love hearing about the creative and awe-inspiring ways in which you use your fitness outside the walls of the gym. But today I want to introduce you to one of the newest members of the coaching staff. Amanda has been co-coaching and filling in for summer vacations for awhile now. She's a regular in the evening classes, always has an encouraging word for everyone, and lives the values of Catacombs everywhere she goes. She also has a strong nutrition background and is always happy to talk shop in that department. Amanda will be covering some classes next week while my family and I take one last summer backpacking trip and will be a regular on our EXPANDED schedule starting in two weeks! More on the schedule later this week, but for now, here's what Amanda has to say.

"I enjoy CrossFit for many reasons, but managing my Type 1 Diabetes is at the top of the list.  CrossFit and the nutritional principles we teach have been pivotal in keeping my blood sugar under control and subsequently remaining healthy.  Don't get me wrong, I love the constant challenge, camaraderie, and the feeling when the workout is done, but that alone might not have gotten me here.  There have been many obstacles to overcome and there are still so many more.  Yet every time I clear a hurdle that's been getting me down, it gives me an overwhelming sense of confidence and accomplishment that spills over into the rest of my life.  That has everything to do with why I want to coach.  I know that there are so many people out there struggling with stress, food, health issues, and real life obstacles. While CrossFit may not be the answer to all their problems, it can bring the confidence to change the whole game. I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to be coaching at Catacombs.  I can't imagine being anywhere else.

When I'm not at the gym, you can find me managing 81301 Coffee House (I only have a mild coffee addiction...I swear).  If not there, I'm likely enjoying one of my two summer loves: mountain biking and SUP boarding. You know, the Durango dream."
