Durango Derailers and Courage Classic

Many of you know Laura Shelton as the athlete that races in just before the noon workout; works, sweats, and curses her way through the noon workout; quickly transforms back into work clothes; and races out the door to get back to work. You might also know her as the person who is always ready with a word of encouragement in your darkest moments...either in a workout or in life. If you talk to her for more than two minutes, you will probably also know that she is passionate about the Courage Classic, Colorado Children's Hospital, and helping families that need travel assistance to receive treatment at Children's Hospital. This is a cause near and dear to her heart as her own family has spent countless days and weeks at Children's Hospital with their son Chase.

Courage Classic is an annual bike ride where more than 2000 riders gather at Copper Mountain and spend 3 days riding mountain passes and raising money for Children's Hospital. We have several members who annually participate in this event. The Durango Derailers is a team of riders that participate in this event and raise money to help families from Durango and southwest Colorado defray the costs of travel to and from Children's Hospital for treatment. Our own Laura Shelton is the team captain for the Durango Derailers for this year's Courage Classic.

As a community, there is much that we can do to support this cause. Many of you should consider riding in the Courage Classic. Make it part of your summer riding/racing calendar. If you can't actually ride in the event, you can still participate by sponsoring riders and making a donation to the Durango Derailers. You can do either of these through the Courage Classic/Durango Derailers website. Or, contact Laura directly (970-749-1506) if you have questions on participating or want to know how you can help.
