Greetings Catacombs Community--

We are dropping some big news today that you don't want to miss. Catacombs is partnering with Alternative Horizons to put on a special Saturday Edition of Friday Night Lights as a fundraiser for this great local organization. Read on for the skinny and stay tuned in the coming days as we finalize more details.

This workout is named in honor of Lt. Michael Murphy, a Navy Special Operations Officer who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. It is a CrossFit benchmark workout. Don't worry, we will scale for all abilities.
This workout is named in honor of Lt. Michael Murphy, a Navy Special Operations Officer who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. It is a CrossFit benchmark workout. Don't worry, we will scale for all abilities.

What: CrossFit Catacombs is hosting the hero workout "Murph". It consists of a mile run, 100 pullups, 200 push ups, and 300 air squats, and another mile run. As always, we will have many scaled options to accommodate everyone's fitness level. We will wrap up with complimentary food and beverages provided by Catacombs and other sponsors of the event.

When: Saturday, November 15th. We will kick off heats at 3:00, 3:20, and 3:40.

Who: Well, Catacombs athletes of course. But we are also extending a hearty invitation to the Durango Police Dept, Durango Fire Dept, other gyms in the community, and anyone that wants to come out and have fun while supporting a great cause.

Why: CrossFit has a long history of supporting nonprofit organizations, although that support is often channeled to larger nationwide nonprofits. We believe giving back to our community is an important tenet in appreciating how fortunate we are and extending a hand to those who may not have the same opportunities. Alternative Horizons provides assistance to survivors of domestic violence and education around domestic violence prevention. Tomorrow's blog post will give you a lot more information on Alternative Horizons, but we chose to lend our support to a local nonprofit that is doing great things in our community. As you learn more about this great organization, I think you will agree that they are an invaluable resource worthy of our support.

How: Event participants will be asked to make a donation at the door for Alternative Horizons (suggested $25). All proceeds will go to the organization. We are in the process of securing food and drink sponsors as an added benefit to participants. Catacombs will match the first $500 in donations. Advance sign up will be required, but everyone is welcome to participate. Stay tuned for more details.

So that's the low down! Mark your calendars and start harassing your friends, coworkers, and family members to make this a priority. Additionally, if you have connections that could help us offset the cost of food and beverages for this event, please let me know.
