Hey Guys--

Hopefully you are all back on the wagon from the holiday food shenanigans. The holidays are full of social gatherings and temptations that are generally not awesome for our nutrition, sleep, or workouts. There is nothing wrong with relaxing your rules and letting your guard down a little bit. We use New Years as a fresh start, but often that resolve is short lived and we find ourselves struggling again. We've got great news for you if you are ready to reel that back in and get on a solid, sustainable path to not just better nutrition, but overall better health. The January Whole Life Challenge is right around the corner (January 20th) and there is no better way to steer the ship back on course than with the support of your Catacombs community. Not sure what the Whole Life Challenge is? Well, read on. It might just change your life.

If you've never heard of the Whole Life Challenge, it is 6 weeks (much better than the 8 weeks previously) of focus on nutrition, sleep, stretching, exercise, stress management and a whole host of other lifestyle factors. The power comes in accountability to our team and the encouragement and support that our community provides through this forum. It basically works like a game where you get points every day for achieving certain criteria. You don't have to be perfect; the focus is on awareness and progress. You choose your level of buy-in and there is a leaderboard to see how you stack up with the rest of the team. It requires daily interaction and commitment on multiple fronts. The competition is only with yourself (well, sort of), but the rewards of embracing this challenge and crushing it are life changing. I like this format because it creates a great environment to support one another and there is a level that works for everyone. It is not a one size fits all program and the resources they provide to help you succeed are unmatched. The cost is nominal and you get much more support than you would if you were relying solely on our coaching staff.

The WLC begins January 20. That is right around the corner. CrossFit Catacombs has setup a team and we welcome as many of you as are willing to join us. But we will not twist your arm or guilt you into participation. You see, over the years, I have come to believe that nutrition is THE most powerful weapon we have in the arsenal of health. I also know without a doubt that you have to be ready for change or it is a waste of everyone's time.  We stand ready to support each and every one of you through this nutrition and lifestyle challenge. If you are ready, we are pumped to be your partner through it. If this is not your time, don't worry. Your time will come. We won't judge you or question your commitment. We are still really glad you are here.

I, or any of our coaching staff are happy to talk with you more about the details of this and whether or not it is right for you. You owe it to yourself to at least understand what the options are. We can customize any of the available options for where you are on the nutrition and lifestyle journey. If you are just getting started at Catacombs or considering getting started with CrossFit, this is for you too. Bonds are built between athletes participating and the shared journey is a rewarding experience. I promised that I wouldn't twist anyone's arm, but if you are serious about your health and fitness in 2018, nutrition has to be on your radar.

If you know you are ready and want to register, sign up through the Whole Life Challenge website. Make sure you sign up for the CrossFit Catacombs team. That allows us to have a closed online community where we are helping each other rather than dealing with the thousands of others participating at the same time. The cost for sign up with the Whole Life Challenge is $49. There is no additional fee to CrossFit Catacombs. We just want as many of you as possible to join us.

From our friends at the Whole Life Challenge:

Losing weight isn’t the point of the Whole Life Challenge.

It’s just a nice side effect.
One that comes from eliminating inflammatory foods from your diet.
From losing man-made foodstuffs and artificial ingredients.
From ignoring those treats that spike your insulin over and over.
(And replacing them with foods that don’t.)
Nutrient dense foods.
Vegetables and proteins.
Things that grow from the ground, roam the earth, or swim in the sea.

And we built our food lists toward this end.

With health in mind (rather than weight loss).
Because this isn’t a diet.

It’s a way to be healthier (and happier), to eat in a way that’s more than theoretical.

It’s how we fill our plates in an attempt to avoid the common diseases of the Western world.
To improve our moods.
And our performance.
(and yes, to lose weight if necessary.)
And it seems to work.
