You Can't Outwork a Bad Diet

We are in the lead up phase to our Spring Nutrition Challenge. Some of you have been committed to this challenge long before we even announced it. You have been waiting for the structure and support to attack your food weaknesses and improve your health as well as your body composition. Others of you have no interest in participating, and that is okay too. Unless you are committed, and I mean REALLY COMMITTED, you will not be successful in changing your eating habits and reaping the benefits of doing so. Maybe now just isn't the time. Maybe your desire for change is not as strong as your desire to keep doing the same things. There is no pressure and no judgement if you choose not to participate.

But here is the deal. (My kids hate when I do this to them and tell them that it is "their decision", then proceed to guilt them into "deciding" to do what I wanted them to do in the first place.) Most of us would see noticeable, if not drastic improvements in our health, body composition, gym performance, even our sleep and mood, if we took our nutrition half as seriously as we take our workouts. You cannot atone for garbage taken in by work put out. It just doesn't work that way. So it's time to ask yourself some soul-searching questions.

Two months from now, when the challenge is behind us, how will I feel about myself for successfully completing it; even if there were some hiccups along the way?

How will I feel at that point if I chose not to participate?

What's stopping me from investing 6 weeks in my health by way of nutrition?

Could I use this challenge as a framework for some other goals that I would like to achieve in my life?

If you are still reading and haven't rolled your eyes at me yet, here's an article to help fuel the fire. It's a recent one from the CrossFit Journal--The Sugary Albatross: The "energy balance" is a myth; you can't outwork a bad diet. No scientific studies (okay, maybe a little), just personal stories of CrossFitters and how flipping the switch on nutrition changed their lives.
