As always, we will have scaled options and modifications that will work for everyone.
Last year, we introduced the concept of Milestone Workouts. If you weren't around then, or don't remember, let me explain. We believe that it is important to measure your fitness. If your fitness is not improving as a result of your training protocol, then it is not an effective training program. If you don't test and measure your fitness, how will you know if you are improving? Many of you tell me that you just "feel stronger" or "more fit". Some of you have race results or weight loss results to back up your claims; but those are all subjective. Now, don't get me wrong, I believe that those subjective measures are relevant and far more meaningful than a score on a workout in many cases. Still, seeing progress on paper is an important motivational tool...and I want you to have as many tools as possible to help keep you on track.
Just like we measure strength numbers, it is important to measure factors like stamina, endurance, agility, and efficiency in multiple metabolic pathways. It is impossible to measure all of these things in a single workout, so we have a developed a series of workouts to help us gauge our progress. These workouts will be performed 4 different times throughout the year to allow you to assess your fitness and progress. There is no requirement to "opt-in" or sign up for a program, as we will be performing these workouts as our Workout of the Day. All that is required is that you participate in the workout that day, then RECORD YOUR SCORE and modifications. You can use Zen Planner or your own notebook. It takes only a few seconds. Then, when we repeat the workouts in April, July, and October, you will have a standard for comparison.
Next week will feature two Milestone Workouts. They will be completed on Tuesday and Friday as the Workout of the Day or you can make them up in Open Gym on Saturday. Questions? Just ask.
