"Helton"
3 rounds for time of:
Run 800 meters
30 Squat cleans, (50 lb dumbbells or 95/65)
30 Burpees

Mind-Body Connection

Recently, over Thanksgiving Break, I was trying to drag my kids out of their grandmother's house and along for a run with me. There was a fair amount of initial resistance as the inertia of sitting in the cozy house was hard to overcome. Nevertheless, I prevailed (probably with the stellar parenting skills of threats and bribes). 

Once we got outside, an amazing thing happened. First, the morning grouchiness lifted. What had been bickering and fighting turned into playful games and encouragement between sisters. As we turned around and headed home, my oldest daughter's thoughts turned to some projects and homework that she had planned to complete over Thanksgiving Break. I guarantee you that she had given ZERO thought to those responsibilities up until that point. She proceeded to tell me that she thought she would spend a little time on them later that day so that she could go into December a little ahead of the game. As we finished the run, she encouraged me to keep pushing myself to the end and told me what a great job I was doing. 

I had a little epiphany as I was watching these events unfold. I KNOW the mental health benefits of exercise. I tell you guys about them all the time. Still, seeing it in action was powerful. The next time I look at my calendar and decide I don't have to exercise, I will remind myself that I don't have time not to exercise. My mental health, creativity, and fitness need to be fed.
