Meet Diesel

When did you start at Catacombs and why?
I started CFC Sept 2014 after just finishing up bike packing the Colorado Trail.  After being pretty bike-centric for the past 10 years, I was ready for an entirely new fitness routine and one that conditioned the whole body.  

What do you do to pay the bills?
I am a Planner for La Plata County.  I feel very fortunate to be able to help shape how communities grow and live in a place like Durango. We are putting down serious roots.

How do you like to spend your time when not at work or the gym?
Nothing beats family time. We have a two year boy that is a lot of fun (#2 on the way).  I embrace the seasonality of recreating; summer is for biking and boating, winter is for skiing.  Lately I've gotten back into running, most often pushing a stroller on the river trail.

What do you want to see on the whiteboard when you walk in for a workout (favorite movements, time domains, workout style, etc.)?
I fancy myself as an endurance guy, the longer the workout the better.  I like to do anything that involves cardio like running and rowing, and body weight movements (box jumps, pull-ups, squats, etc.)

What gives you a sense of dread when you see it on the whiteboard?
Handstand Push ups just suck, plain and simple.  Overhead squats are also my nemesis. 

How do you use your fitness outside of the gym or why do you care about being fit?
I'm a weekend warrior in the fullest sense of the word.  I need to squeeze my workouts in at 5:30 am or it won't happen at all.  CFC keeps me accountable and able to go big on the weekends.  I still like to line up for the occasional bike race or xc ski race, and CFC keeps me competitive.  

What's your favorite motivational quote, song, or ritual?
Beliefs shape values, values shape actions.  (some say I take life to seriously!)

Name one thing you want to achieve in the gym in 2016.
Is it possible to do your age in pull-ups unbroken?  37 could be asking too much...

What else do you have to say for yourself?
Honored to be part of the Catacombs family, fitness is only half the experience.
